Effective date: April 21, 2026.
This policy explains how Cafelam (the “site”) handles information about people who visit the site. It applies to cafelam.com and any subdomains we operate. The policy is written to meet our obligations under applicable United States privacy law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and where relevant the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for readers in the European Economic Area.
What we collect
When you read an article we receive standard web-server information: IP address, browser user-agent, referring URL, and the pages you viewed. This is the normal byproduct of loading a page on the public internet. If you send us an email we keep the email and your address on record so we can respond and so we have a history of the exchange. If you leave a comment we keep the name, email, and text you submitted.
We use Google Analytics and related Google properties for aggregate traffic measurement. These tools may place cookies on your browser; our cookie policy describes the mechanics. We do not sell this data. We do not build cross-site advertising profiles of our readers.
How we use it
Server logs and analytics data are used to understand aggregate readership, diagnose technical problems, and defend against abuse. Email and comment data are used for the reason you contacted us. We do not use any of this data to make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
Who we share it with
We share data only with vendors who help us operate the site, such as our hosting provider, email delivery, and analytics. These vendors process data on our instructions under standard commercial terms. We disclose information when required by law, for example in response to a valid subpoena or court order.
How long we keep it
Web-server logs are kept for the short period needed for debugging and abuse handling, typically ninety days. Analytics data follows the retention setting configured in each tool. Emails and comments are kept as long as they remain useful to an ongoing exchange or a published article.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Under CCPA, California residents have specific rights to know, delete, and opt out of sale. Under GDPR, EEA readers have equivalent rights plus a right to object and a right to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@cafelam.com. We will respond within the timelines required by law.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, post a notice. Minor clarifications may be made without a notice.
